Abstract
Abstract This paper attempts to investigate the debate on direct democracy in the Second French Republic based on the problems inherent to the modern representative system. For this, we resort to the very moment in which the foundations of the French representative government are elaborated, thus noticing the logic under which they think, and even more the logic against which they argue in France from 1850-1851 to defend the revolutionary principles, which underpin the representative system. In this way, to avoid the contradictions present in the representation, they develop government programs that can be consistent with these principles.
